Warner Bros. Celebrating International Women’s Day at Print Club London

Warners Bros. decided to celebrate International Women’s Day, by hosting a fun event at Print Club London. International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March every year, and it is about raising awareness of issues that many women face, and also to celebrate women’s achievements and strengths. Over the last few years, this has become a very popular event, celebrated around the world, with many celebrities speaking up. In Hollywood, the likes of Reece Witherspoon, Oprah and Emma Watson have made memorable speeches about equality and moving women’s roles forward in an industry dominated by males. The ‘Me Too’ movement has encouraged women to speak up about topics and situations in which they were once too afraid to speak out about. “Your Time Is Up” a line delivered in Oprah’s powerful speech given at this year’s Golden Globes, has been talked about ever since it happened, resulting in huge support for her, which resulted in her being encouraged to make a run for President of the United States. These powerful women have been given an incredible platform, and they are making their voices heard. They are encouraging girls and women around the world to do the same.

Wonder Woman, the cast of Girls, and Big Little Lies were the featured heroines of the evening. We were invited to get deep down and dirty with a range of paints, stencils and print screen machines, in order to design inspirational quotes associated with the movie and the shows. The team at the Print Club London were all on hand to guide us through the process, and to show us how print screen design works. From Girls, the designed quote to turn in to print was: “Enjoy Going Through Life As Yourself”. Wonder Woman gave us: “I’m Willing To Fight For Those Who Cannot Fight For Themselves” and “You’re Not Perfect, Welcome To The Club” was taken from Big Little Lies. The event was quirky and a lot of fun. It was a room dominated by women meeting and making new friends, with lots of positive encouragement and everyone ended up producing lots of stunning artwork!

It will be interesting to see how far women’s roles on-screen will change in the future. Could this be the tip of the iceberg, resulting in us seeing strong character-lead roles for women? The future looks to be changing, and equality for all is a dream for many people. In Hollywood, this is quite a sensitive topic at the moment, and people are coming out from all areas of the industry, to support equality and fairness of treatment. It’ll be very interesting to see how movies and TV shows change in the coming years, and to see if we can have more Wonder Women to look up to.
