Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation has given grants amounting to $189,000 to more than 50 carefully-vetted animal shelters across the US.

The grants ranged from $3,000 to $5,000 with the aim of helping shelters continue their remarkable work with rescue animals.

“I am amazed and humbled by the great work these shelters do, and so honored to be able to support their critical efforts on behalf of rescue animals,” said Miranda.

Founded by Miranda’s mother Bev Lambert, the Mutts Across America program has awarded over 200 shelters with more than $775,000 so far. Each shelter is thoroughly researched by the MuttNation Board of Directors based on a range of criteria that includes adoption rate, volunteerism, fiscal responsibility, community presence and other important areas of interest.

Bev Lambert says, “The shelter selection process proved to be more complex than initially thought. During our first year we soon discovered that all shelters are not created equally. We feel we have now developed a criterion list through which we hand pick the “best of the best” shelters. Miranda and I, along with our board of directors, are honored to join forces with them in our mutual drive to benefit Mutts Across America.”

MuttNation creates a total surprise for the shelters by only announcing the Mutts Across America recipients once the the grantees have received their packages. In addition to the check and certificate, honorees are also gifted MuttNation Citizenship.

Lisa Pearce of the Charleston Animal Society wrote, “On behalf of the animals in our care, you have our deepest gratitude. What a wonderful surprise to receive your certificate, letter and generous donation to Charleston Animal Society. We are celebrating 5 years of being the first No Kill open admission shelter in the Southeast and will make sure your kindness goes toward lifesaving our sweet shelter dogs and cats.”
