Helen Mirren discusses her role in a new Winchester featurette

Winchester (also known as Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built) is heading to cinemas this week and to celebrate, Lionsgate have released a new featurette starring Helen Mirren talking about her role in the horror movie.

Inspired by true events, the jumpy scarefest is out on 2nd February.

On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world.

Built by Sarah Winchester (Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren – Fast and Furious 8), heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end.

Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms.

To the outsider it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook) or for the brilliant Doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke) whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters…

The horror looks to be amazing and covers an age-old tale that has been screaming for a big Hollywood version for years. Casting Helen Mirren looks to also be a masterstroke.

Winchester: The House Built By Ghosts is now released in UK cinemas on the 2nd February, 2018 – a whole month earlier than originally expected.

Apart from Helen Mirren, the film co-stars Sarah Snook, Jason Clarke and Agus Sampson and is co-directed by Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig. Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig and Tom Vaughan are on writing credits.

Other supporting cast members include Laura Brent, Tyler Coppin, Dawayne Jordan, Jeffrey W. Jenkins, Thor Carlsson, Xavier Gouault, John Lobato, Emm Wiseman, Xavier Gouault and Finn Scicluna-O’Prey.

The Spierig Brothers are no strangers to the genre, having co directed Predestination, Daybreakers, Undead and most recently Jigsaw, the latest instalment in the SAW franchise.

We can’t wait to see Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built and the most recent teaser trailer looks to have done justice to the scary true-life story behind this ghostly house.
