C2C 2018: Luke Combs profile

Luke Combs is one of the hottest new young vocalists in Nashville right now, and will make his UK debut when he performs at C2C this March. He’ll be appearing second on Saturday 10th March at the O2 Arena, following Ashley Campbell.

Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, Combs has been singing since childhood and dropped out of college on his last day to pursue a career in country music. He released two independent EPs in 2014 before signing with Mercury Nashville and releasing a third EP, This One’s For You, in 2015.

In May 2017, Combs scored his first number one on the Billboard Country Radio charts in the US with his debut single, Hurricane. Telling the story of a former couple who get back together after seeing each other in a bar, the song shows off Combs’ impressive vocal range. The single topped the charts for two weeks and has been certified platinum in the US and Canada, whilst the video was nominated for Breakthrough Video of the Year at the 2017 CMT Music Awards.

He released his debut album, also called This One’s For You, in June 2017. The album charted at number one on the Billboard country albums chart and number 5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums in its first week and has sold over 178,000 copies so far.

Combs’ current single is When It Rains It Pours, about a man’s lucky streak after being left by his girlfriend. The uptempo humorous song reached number one on the Billboard Country Airplay and Hot Country charts, as well as topping the Canadian Country chart. It is currently certified gold in the US and has sold over 300,000 copies.

In 2017, Combs was nominated for the CMA New Artist of the Year Award. He was also named as an ‘Artist To Watch’ by Billboard in 2017, as well as being named in their 100 Artists of 2017 and as Number One in their list of New Country Artists.

Combs released his third single from This One’s For You, One Number Away, on 12th January 2018. He was also recently nominated in the iHeart Radio Music Awards for Best New Country Artist and Country Song of the Year for Hurricane. In February, he’ll go out on the road with the 2018 leg of his Don’t Tempt Me With A Good Time headlining tour in the US, including two shows at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium.
