Inspired by the recent slew of sexual assault and harassment accusations made in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the song celebrates women and is a deeply personal song for Urban.
āAs a husband and a father of two young girls, it affects me in a lot of ways,ā Urban commented while speaking to Billboard. āAnd as a son — my mother is alive. It just speaks to all of the females in my life, particularly. For a guy who grew up with no sisters in a house of boys, itās incredible how now Iām surrounded by girls. But not only in my house; I employ a huge amount of women in my team. The song just hit me for so many reasons.ā
Female was written by Shane McAnally, Nicolle Galyon and Ross Copperman. You can hear Galyon on backing vocals throughout the track.
It’s unclear if the single is the lead track from a new album or a one-off but fans are embracing it and it’s quickly jumping up the iTunes charts across the world.
