The life of Whitney Houston is the subject of documentary maker Nick Broomfield’s latest film Can I Be Me, which arrives on digital platforms, Blu-ray and DVD on 4th September via Dogwoof.

The late music legend, who tragically died in 2012, was considered to be one of the original divas but her personal life was plagued with insecurities and demons. Whitney Can I Be Me examines Houston’s New Jersey gospel roots, her rise to global fame in the 1980s and the key relationships in her life, building to deliver the clearest picture yet of a star still sorely missed.

The film features contributions from those were were around her during her career. It gives an insight into her 1999 world tour, where the singer’s world began to unravel.

Co-director Rudi Dolezal offers a glimpse of the real Houston in previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage.

Whitney Can I Be Me is a respectful look into Houston’s life with Broomfield bringing balance to the tabloid headlines that dogged the end of Houston’s career.

Bonus features on the release include a Q&A with Nick Broomfield recorded at Sheffield Doc/Fest.
