Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell is dead, aged 52

Reports are surfacing this morning that Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has died aged 52.

A statement was released to Associated Press by his representative Brian Bumbery stating that Cornell’s death was ‘sudden and unexpected’. At this time no further details have been released regarding the cause of death.

Seattle-born Cornell rose to fame as the frontman for grunge band Soundgarden, who signed to major label A&M in 1988. The band also consisted of guitarist Kim Thyail and bassist Hiro Yamamoto.

Outside of Soundgarden, Cornell has enjoyed a successful solo career and recorded You Know My Name, the theme tune to James Bond movie Casino Royale in 2006. As a solo artist Cornell released four solo albums, his last was Higher Truth in 2015.

Cornell was also part of Audioslave, a rock supergroup that also featured Tom Morello,
Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk.

Our thoughts go out to Cornell’s family and friends at this difficult time.
