Jennifer Nettles is making her live debut in the UK tonight at C2C: Country to Ountry as a solo artist and before her performance she sat down with members of the international press to take a few questions.

We asked about the collaboration with Jennifer Lopez, My House, which closes her latest album Playing With Fire.

‘I am passionate about immigration and matters relating to immigrants. I wanted to write something that showed our communities aren’t all that different. I reached out to her (Jennifer Lopez) and she loved the idea so we sat down a few weeks later and wrote the song with some friends of ours.’

Referring to the uncertain and unusual times we’re living in, Jennifer went on to say, ‘I think we as artists need to lead the way during these strange times.’

Digging into some of the album tracks on Playing With Fire, Jennifer opened up about Drunk in Heels.

‘I love that art can sit in a corner and point a subversive finger at something and you can be made to think of it differently.’

She went on to explain the pressures on women and how the song is meant to let women know they don’t have to do it all. ‘As women we’re expected to be able to different everything and like it all… we don’t like it all. It gives us permission to say that.’

Does she still get nervous when performing? ‘I still get nervous, depending on the performance. Live television will quicken one’s step in the different way to a live show. I’ve been doing it so long I just get adrenalized’.

Jennifer Nettles performs on the main stage at C2C: Country to Country tonight at 6.30pm.
