Blonde curly haired songstress Cam may hail from Huntington Beach, California but she’s the real deal when it comes to her brand of Country music.

Prior to her performance at C2C: Country to Country tonight, Cam sat down with international press to talk about her music, her career, her upbringing and much more. Wearing yellow shoes (incase you don’t know, she always wears something yellow), Cam spoke candidly with a big smile on her face throughout.

Talking about her breakthrough hit Burning House, Cam explained:

‘I had this dream about this burning house in this field. I was running towards it and the emergency services wouldn’t let me know, even though he was in there. I ran straight in and he was trapped. I couldn’t get him out but I held him so he didn’t have to die alone.’

She went on to talk about how her fans have taken the song to heart. ‘I love that it means so much to people here too.’

Album track Runaway Train wasn’t actually intended for Cam. ‘We were going to pitch it to Elle King. The producer said can you write something like Adele but with technology references and a bit dark. It explores revenge and how you get so consumed with other people.’

As she spoke about her childhood and moving from Huntington Beach to San Francisco Bay, Cam went into her musical influences.

‘When I was little I would write horribly, emo poetry. We read a bunch of famous poets around the dinner table. My mom loved Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan and my dad loved the Stones. I love the Indigo Girls too.’

She also spoke briefly about the lack of female artists in Country music, admitting that it was a bit puzzling.

‘There are a lot of women artists but being played on the radio and being signed by major labels is a different story. When I started I think there was one woman on the chart in the Top 30. It’s hard to pinpoint why.’

Cam performs on the Yamaha Music Stage inside the Main Area at The O2, London tonight at 9pm.
