Season one of Lethal Weapon, from FOX, kicks off in the UK this week on ITV. The show is based on the film series of the same name. It is created by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). We’re getting the show nearly six months behind the U.S. where it is due to finish in a couple of weeks so beware of spoilers.

Combining action and drama with friendship and humor, Lethal Weapon reboots the hit film franchise, as it follows classic cop duo Riggs and Murtaugh, who are working a crime-ridden beat in modern-day Los Angeles.

Family man LAPD Detective Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) is back to work after a near fatal heart attack – and his doctor has told him he needs to keep his stress levels under control. That might not be so easy given that he’s been paired with ex-Navy SEAL-turned-detective Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford), who has moved to California for a new start at the LAPD.

Lethal Weapon also stars Kevin Rahm (Mad Men), Jordana Brewster (The Fast and the Furious films), Keesha Sharp (Are We There Yet?), Dante Brown (Mr. Robinson), Chandler Kinney (Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street) and Johnathan Fernandez (Upright Citizens Brigade).

The original Lethal Weapon film from 1987 starred Mel Gibson as Riggs and Danny Glover as Murtaugh. The pair went on to star in three more films.

The official synopsis for the Lethal Weapon pilot episode reads:

In the series premiere, ex-Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford) is paired up with by-the-book LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) in a partnership that could be lethal.
