On the latest episode of Elementary, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) found themselves in a race against time after Shinwell (Nelsan Ellis) was framed for murder.
The episode began with Watson sleeping through a call from Sherlock as she had put her phone on silent. She was instead awoken by sounds of screaming but upon investigating found it to be the ringtone of one of Sherlock’s phones.
He was calling her to urgently attend the scene of a murder. The victim was a gang member and Sherlock realised the description of one of the men fleeing the scene matched Shinwell.
The crime scene felt off so the pair investigated further. When they tried to pay Shinwell a visit he was nowhere to be found and it looked like he may have left in a hurry.
Sherlock then went to talk to various members of Shinwell’s old SBK gang to determine their whereabouts during the murder. Meanwhile Watson went back to the brownstone and found Shinwell there waiting for her.
Shinwell explained that he had been at the crime scene but hadn’t committed the murder. He asked for her help and also told her that he had been working as an FBI informant to Agent Whitlock.
Watson paid him a visit and he confirmed what Shinwell said but refused to help him. She eventually worked out that Agent Whitlock had been using off the book informants to get information on how gangs moved their money. He was then ambushing them and taking it for himself. Rather than help Shinwell and go to prison he chose to kill himself.
At the end of the episode, Sherlock paid Shinwell another visit. He handed him a cloth that he had used to wipe Shinwell’s prints off the murder weapon. He left him by telling him to make the most of his second, second chance.
The next episode is Pick Your Poison. When Watson is implicated in a DEA investigation into doctors writing illegal prescriptions, she and Holmes search for the person using her medical license to sell drugs.
