World champion long jumper Greg Rutherford is trying a different kind of sport by joining the 2016 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The athlete, who is partnered with long-time Strictly pro Natalie Lowe, doesn’t rate his dancing skills despite being one of the fittest celebs this year.
“I have zero dance skills and I have zero dance experience so that’s part of the concern I have! To be honest we just did a fitting for the outfits and I thought great I don’t mind doing any of that at all – I have to usually jump in a very tight vest and shorts so I’m fine with that stuff but it’s more the fact that I hate not being good at things because normally anything I ever try like a sport or anything else I have some idea I can pick up quite quickly, so I’m hoping I can pick this up.”
Greg admitted that he finds it odd to meet other famous people, despite being famous himself. “You know what’s the weird thing? When you do sport and meet people who you deem as famous if you like, it’s always a bit odd. I’m always like oh wow it’s so and so and I’m still like that now so it’s going to be interesting meeting people.”
What will be his biggest challenge? ” At this time of year I normally completely switch off for six weeks. I stay at home a lot sitting around in my pants eating cakes because I don’t really get to do that the rest of the year and this is going to be one of the first years in a long time that I’m training through.”
