Now You See Me 2, The Legend of Tarzan, The Neon Demon and more: In cinemas this week

Stuck for what to watch at the weekend? Let Entertainment Focus help you with our handy guide to this week’s new releases. From the biggest blockbusters to the best in independent and world cinema, we’ve got it covered.

Now You See Me 2

What’s it about? A sequel to 2013 thriller Now You See Me, the ridiculously titled Now You See Me 2 (it surely should have been called Now You Don’t) reunites most of the original cast and a few new ones for more magical capers. This time they are joined by Lizzy Caplan and the world’s most famous wizard, Daniel Radcliffe. Probably won’t be whipping out his patronus in this one though.

Who’s in it? Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, Jay Chou With Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman

The Legend of Tarzan

What’s it about? Edgar Rice Burroughs’ most famous literary creation swings back into the cinema, hoping to revive a series that has been adapted over 200 times. Wearing the famous loincloth this time is Swedish actor Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, with Margot Robbie in the role of Jane. Having spent the last ten years living a civilised life in Victorian London, Lord Greystoke (SkarsgÃ¥rd) is lured back to the jungles of the Congo by a treacherous plot to exact revenge against the man once known as Tarzan.

Who’s in it? Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd, Margot Robbie. Samuel L Jackson, Christoph Waltz

Maggie’s Plan

What’s it about? One of the best films at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, Maggie’s Plan is a witty and delightful romantic comedy written and directed by Rebecca Miller. The film follows Maggie (Greta Gerwig) as she implements her plan to be a mother via artificial insemination. The plan is derailed when she meets and falls in love with a married college professor. Insightful, funny, surprising, and featuring a terrific cast on top form. Reminiscent of classic era Woody Allen, Maggie’s Plan is well worth seeking out.

Who’s in it? Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, Julianne Moore, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader

The Neon Demon

What’s it about? Cinematic provocateur Nicolas Winding Refn, follows up the surreal masterpiece / fetid abomination (depending on your point of view) Only God Forgives, with his latest psychological horror fantasy, The Neon Demon. Starring Elle Fanning as an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles where her youth and vitality are coveted and desired. In this town, beauty isn’t everything, it’s the only thing. Two things we can guarantee – it will be a visual feast, and the soundtrack will be awesome. Beyond that…this is a Nic Winding Refn picture…anything could happen.

Who’s in it? Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendrix, Bella Heathcote
