The Nice Guys

What’s it about? Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe star in this 70s set action-comedy-thriller, written and directed by Shane Black – the man responsible for some of the best buddy cop movies of all time (Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). Expect snappy dialogue, a twisty plot, plenty of violence, and a lot of laughs. This could be the sleeper hit of the summer.

Who’s in it? Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger, Matt Bomer

Warcraft: The Beginning

What’s it about? The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. To say the early reviews have not been kind would be an understatement. Based on the World of Warcraft MMORPG, this $100m epic fantasy will do well to find an audience outside of the gaming community.

Who’s in it? Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky

Me Before You

What’s it about? Lou Clark, a young woman takes on the job of carer to Will Traynor, a recently paralyzed man. His life was so full of adventure and excitement before his accident, he can’t bear to live as a quadriplegic. Can Lou convince him that life is worth living? Based on the hugely popular novel by Jojo Moyes, Me Before You is a tear-jerking drama that raises serious and sometimes controversial questions about living with disability.

Who’s in it? Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin, Jenna Coleman, Charles Dance

Race

What’s it about? The incredible true story of Jesse Owens, the African American athlete who competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, despite the huge wave of racism that he had to overcome, both at home and in Nazi Germany. With Hitler and his propaganda machine determined to show the world the supremacy of the Ayran race, Jesse Owens is determined to show the world he is the greatest athlete of all time.

Who’s in it? Stephan James, Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons, Carice Van Houten, William Hurt

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

What’s it about? This sequel to 2014’s TMNT sees the four ninja turtles once again at war with Shredder. Only this time, he has created some mutants of his own, in the form of Bebop and Rocksteady, the humanoid hog and rhino goons, who will be familiar to anyone who was a fan of the cartoon. To further complicate matters, Krang, the interdimensional blob has decided to invade New York. Thankfully, the Turtles have got April O’Neil, Master Splinter, and hockey-mask-wearing-vigilante-maniac Casey Jones to help them.
