The X-Files coming to Channel 5 in 2016

The six episode event series will arrive in the UK early 2016.

The X-Files six-episode event series will be broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK in early 2016 it has been announced.

Original cast members David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully with series creator Chris Carter executive producing. Other returning characters include Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis, playing Walter Skinner and The Smoking Man respectively.

This will mark a small screen return for the iconic series, which has been off air for 13 years.

As part of Channel 5’s acquisition deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution, the channel will also air The X-Files Essential Collection. This features 20 episodes selected by Chris Cater taking viewers through key moments of the original series.

Ben Frow, Director of Programmes for Channel 5 said, “Securing the UK premiere of the hugely anticipated return of The X-Files is a major coup for the channel and will create one of the television events of 2016. This acquisition underlines our ambition to deliver a diverse slate of brilliant, must-see programming on Channel 5.”

Steve Cornish of Twentieth Century Fox Distribution commented, “We’re delighted to be partnering with Channel 5 as we bring the next chapter of one of our most celebrated series to fans around the world.”

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, The X-Files is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter.
