Olivia Somerlyn – 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire live review

Olivia Somerlyn in one talented lady. We caught the rising star performing live last night at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire, where she was the support act to the talented Megan Trainor. We love seeing fans who are enthusiastic about the artists that they love and last night was no different. Hoards of mostly pre-teen and young teenagers lined the streets around the Shepherd’s Bush Empire very early on and the excitement was cute to see as they adorned their heads with pink rabbit ears, heart lips and t-shirts bearing both the ladies who would be performing for them. This sort of buzz you’d see when Britney Spears first burst on to the scene and the pop princesses lining the streets of Shepherd’s Bush were bursting with excitement to get through the doors and in to the venue.

Olivia is no stranger to the UK arena circuit, after supporting Jessie J last year and she was thrilled to be back last night. It wasn’t long in to her set that she has the predominantly young audience lapping up every tune and every second that they heard and saw her performing. We love crowd anticipation and Olivia sure knows how to get the crowd going in encouraging them to join in with her during her set. OXO proved to be a strong highlight of the set, with its catchy chorus and ‘copy me as I do this – O-X-O’ arm movements, it’s going to be a huge hit and an uplifting song that is sure to bring huge smiles and a feel-goo factor. OXO is a strong contender for being the next song that she releases after Parachute, which is her latest single.

Parachute was of course co-written by Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and Olivia says that the song is about holding on and also letting go in a relationship. It’s a great and catchy tune, which Olivia performed well and she seemed to love every moment on stage, which is always great to see. Her strong sounding songs in the pop-mould and we could imagine the level of greatness they’d be to watch live with a number of special effects and pyrotechnics in the shape of Katy Perry. We wonder how long it’ll be before she’ll be headlining her own arena tours, perhaps entering the stage in some sort of parachute? We can’t help but think that her songs are pop anthems and she deserves that kind of platform.

That said, the songs also sounded great with just Olivia’s beautiful voice telling their stories, adding to it with a high energy set. We believe that Olivia Somerlyn is definitely one to watch out for. She is backed by some music heavyweights and her fan base is growing enormously every day, with a heavy social media following. She is managed by Kevin Jonas Sr. She was the runner up in the recent Macy’s iHeart Radio ‘Rising Star’ Contest in the US, coming a close second and showing everyone what she was all about. Olivia is the picture perfect all-American. Glossy, beautiful and talented, we look forward to seeing her return to the UK in June.
