Christmas 2014 Gift Guide: Gifts for Gamers

Buying for a gamer this Christmas but stuck for ideas beyond more games?

Below we’ve selected some great gifts from around the Internet that any gaming fan would be happy to find under the tree this year.

Stay tuned to EF for our other Christmas gift guides.

Clothing

Gamers tend to save their hard earned cash to spend on more games. Why not treat them to some gaming related clothing? There are plenty of places you could shop but we always find ourselves going back to Insert Coin. They do a fantastic custom range of gaming inspired clothing. Also it’s not always immediately obvious that their range is based on games unless you’re spotted by a fellow gamer.

Charge kits and stations

There’s nothing worse than your controller batteries dying whilst facing off against the final boss in a game. Treat your gamer to an official charge kit for their game controller or maybe consider a charge station allowing then to dock their controllers in between gaming sessions. Check out places like Amazon UK and GAME.

Controllers

Another great idea for console gamers is a spare controller for their console of choice. Essential for games that support same-screen multiplayer and handy as a backup if your main controller dies or gets broken in a fit of gaming rage. If you really want to impress hunt down a limited edition controller such as the Call of Duty Advanced Warfare edition for Xbox One (pictured below).

Controller Accessories

If you’re buying for a gamer who fancies themselves as a bit of a pro gamer then maybe consider a controller accessory. One of our favourite brands is KontrolFreek who make a wide range of thumbstick add-ons and controller skins. Perfect stocking fillers. They ship to the UK but you can also find their products at GAME.

Gaming Chairs

Comfort is essential when gaming and sometimes the sofa just doesn’t cut it. A great addition to any gamers collection is a dedicated gaming chair such as the foldable RC3 from Gioteck which is available at Argos.

Another option is a bean bag such as the products from BeachBumUK. They sell giant bean bags, smaller bean bags for the kids and even a bean bag arm chair.

Merchandise

Any gamer loves gaming merchandise, this might be for one of their favourite games or just gaming related in general. Two of our favourite items this year are the Pac-Man Ghost Lamp and Nintendo 64 Cartridge soaps from Fireboxfirebox-gaming

Mobile Gaming Controller

More gamers are gaming on the go via tablets and smartphones. As these devices become more powerful the games are starting to rival those found on consoles. To help provide a console-like experience new controller are becoming available such as the MOGA Pro Mobile Gaming System (pictured below) which can attach to your Android phone or connect to a tablet via Bluetooth. A great choice for a mobile gamer.

Monitor

When playing the latest games a decent monitor is a must. Our favourite this year is the BenQ XL2720Z available from Scan. A gorgeous 27inch monitor designed for gaming it features low blue light, motion blur reduction and has inputs for HDMI, DVI and VGA allowing you to connect multiple devices.

Retro Games Tablet

If you’re buying for an older gamer a great choice is the JXD s7800b Retro Gaming Tablet from Funstock. It’s capable of playing: PS1, MAME, Dreamcast, N64, NeoGeo, Atari, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, SEGA Master System, SEGA Mega Drive, CPS1, CPS2, Amiga, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and many more!

Extra Storage

With the latest generation of consoles games are just getting bigger and bigger. Downloading the games and installing them takes up precious gaming time but this can be avoided by adding more storage to your console. We’d recommend going for at least a 1TB drive such as the Samsung M3 from Ebuyer. If you want as much storage as possible and have the cash to splash then consider the 4TB Seagate Backup Plus.
