The Smurfs are back with The Complete Seasons 1 – 5 including all 135 thrilling episodes from the first 5 seasons of this classic 1980’s Hanna Barbera animation series. Imagine how long that will keep your children occupied for. Well you don’t need to imagine…its 3240 minutes. Or 54 hours! Just think what you could get done in that time…
Created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo Culliford in 1957, the Smurfs began it’s worldwide takeover in America through The Wallace Berrie Company, who obtained rights to The Smurfs in 1979, releasing figurines at $1.50 each. In 1981, having seen how much his daughter liked a Smurf doll she had been given, NBC President Fred Silverman thought a Smurfs cartoon based on the Belgian comic series would make a good addition to his Saturday-morning lineup (along with other classics such as Scooby-Doo and Charlie’s Angels) turning it in to one of the most successful cartoons ever.
The Smurfs won an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Entertainment Series in 1982-1983.
The overwhelming success of the latest Smurfs movies – with nearly $1bn in box office receipts – has created a whole new blue army of Smurf fans. Nearly 500,000 units have been sold of the original series in the UK since the films release.
Smurfopsis: Far, far away, in a little mushroom village, live a group of little blue pixies in short trousers and white bonnets called The Smurfs. Only as tall as three apples, they speak in“Smurf“, a language that only they understand. The Smurfs are carefree, peaceful creatures that live in harmony with nature. But they have a nasty habit of wanting to act like man, which causes them 1,001 problems.
