Win SIGNED copies of The Science of Interstellar

On November 7th, 2014, Warner Bros. Pictures and Paramount Pictures will release the much-anticipated major motion picture Interstellar, directed by acclaimed film-maker Christopher Nolan. Simultaneous with the film’s release, W. W. Norton & Company will publish a companion book written by the film’s scientific advisor, Kip Thorne, titled The Science of Interstellar.

In the book, Prof. Thorne, a theoretical physicist at Caltech and author of the best-selling book Black Holes and Time Warps, explains the dazzling science that underpins the film.

Thorne, who also serves as an executive producer on the film, together with producers Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Lynda Obst, worked with their collaborators on the project to take audiences beyond the limitations of human space travel in a compelling dramatic adventure grounded in real science, that, in Thorne’s words, provides “a taste of the wondrous things that the laws of physics can and might create in our universe, and the great things humans can achieve by mastering the physical laws.”

The Science of Interstellar, acquired for publication by Norton president W. Drake McFeely and edited by Jeff Shreve, features a foreword by Christopher Nolan. Throughout the book, Kip Thorne draws upon his extensive knowledge to write clearly and accessibly about science at and just beyond the frontiers of human knowledge. Thorne reveals the scientific basis behind key moments in the film’s story, exploring potential interstellar spacecraft models, demonstrating the possible existence of wormholes, and ultimately walking us through the mind-bending details of space and time travel in a five-dimensional universe.

At 320 pages, the paperback book will contain over 200 colour images, including movie stills, photographs, and illustrations.
