Wet Wet Wet: Greatest Hits – Live In Glasgow DVD review

Last year Wet Wet Wet released their Greatest Hits and embarked on a UK tour in celebration. The band played to packed-out crowds around the UK delighting fans with a mix of old and new material. Nearly a year on from those shows, Wet Wet Wet have released their Glasgow date on Blu-ray and DVD just in time for Christmas.

Wet Wet Wetā€™s Greatest Hits tour was a huge success and we were lucky enough to see the band play Londonā€™s O2 Arena. The setlist for the show was the perfect balance of classic hits, fan favourites and a couple of new tracks. It doesnā€™t take long for the band to launch into the first of their classic hits with Wishing I Was Lucky second on the showā€™s setlist.

There are many highlights across the show including Angel Eyes (Home & Away), Goodnight Girl and Sweet Surrender. The newer tracks such as Step By Step and Donā€™t Want To Forgive Me Now fit seamlessly into the set sounding like Wet Wet Wet classics already.

In terms of performance the set is fairly bare with video screens at the back and a glowing mic stand for vocalist Marti Pellow. Wet Wet Wet have never needed gimmicks and they donā€™t need them now which is why the stripped-back staging is perfect for them. Pellowā€™s voice carries the weight of the show with the rest of the band proving to be as tight as ever as they play through the bandā€™s long list of hits.

The encore of course is Love Is All Around which receives an incredible reaction from the crowd. Wet Wet Wetā€™s version of the track is the definitive version now and every time we hear it, it makes us want to stick Love Actually on the DVD player. Suffice to say itā€™s a fitting end to a fantastic show.

The release is packaged with a bonus live CD featuring 12 tracks taken from different dates on the tour. Songs included on it are Wishing I Was Lucky (from Birmingham), Julia Says (from Brighton) and Love Is All Around (from Dublin).

All these years on Wet Wet Wet are still a live force to be reckoned with. Marti Pellowā€™s voice may have weathered over the years but he can still perform all of the classic hits with passion and energy. If you saw the show last year then you should get this release as a memento. You wonā€™t regret it!
