The X Factor 2014: Stevi Ritchie spotlight

The call centre worker danced his way back into the competition as a wildcard.

Stevi Ritchie

34-year-old Essex call centre worker Stevi Ritchie may not have the best vocals in the competition but there’s no doubt that The X Factor would be dull without him.

Despite entertaining the judges throughout the process, and getting a rousing reaction from the crowd, Simon Cowell decided not to take Stevi through to the live shows. Cheryl was given the choice of the Overs for her wildcard and she decided to bring Stevi back.

We would say judging from last night’s show that Simon isn’t thrilled that Stevi is in his category but he should be thrilled as Stevi gave one of the most entertaining performances of the night.

How does Stevi feel about getting to the live shows? “It is absolutely amazing, I am now living the dream and having a ball. I never wanted to leave the show after Judges’ Houses. I’m really happy to be back!”

Where was he when he heard the news? “I was at a hotel doing some last minute Xtra Factor filming and I expected to see Sarah Jane walk in but Cheryl came through the door and I wondered what was going on. I had to look twice and rub my eyes, I was shaking I was so shocked. She told me she had chosen me to go back into Simon’s category and I thought she was winding me up. She had to tell me 10 times before I actually believed her. I need to buy her some flowers to say thank you.”

Who would Stevi like to duet with? “I am going to have to go with my heart and say Olly Murs, he has supported me throughout the show so far and I sang his song on my first audition so I would love that. It would be a dream come true.”

Tune in to ITV tonight at 8.15pm to see if Stevi makes it through to week 2 of the competition. Watch Stevi’s week 1 performance of Ricky Martin’s Livin’ La Vida Loca below:
