Hanna (Ashley Benson) became the focus of an intervention this week when Spencer (Troian Bellisario) confronted Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) about his part in her friendā€™s rapid spiral. The past few weeks has seen Hanna turn to booze to deal with her issues and Caleb has been a willing and able drinking buddy as he deals with his own demons.

Ashley (Laura Leighton) tried to tackle her daughterā€™s obvious problems but it seems that it was Spencer who finally helped Hanna break her vicious circle. Arriving unannounced at Calebā€™s she served up a few home truths and pleaded with him to help end Hannaā€™s worrying alcohol problem. Spencer set the wheels in motion for Hannaā€™s decision to knock booze on the head but first there was the problem of Zack (Steve Talley) to deal with.

Spencer let the cat out of the bag to Caleb who in turn questioned Hanna when she became evasive about why she didnā€™t want to attend Ella (Holly Marie Combs) and Zackā€™s engagement party. Getting the truth out of her, Caleb stormed over to The Brew and planted his first in Zackā€™s face but not before discovering that A had been interfering by slipping a note to Zack pretending to be from Hanna.

Aria was the next to realise that what Hanna said was true and pleaded with her mum to think about things seriously before she went through with marrying Zack. This prompted Ella to ask if Zack had been inappropriate towards Aria and the revelation that thereā€™d be ā€˜an incidentā€™ previously that sheā€™d tried to ignore. Aria explained that Zack tried it on with Hanna and finally admitting her friend was telling the truth, Aria headed over to Calebā€™s to make amends. When she arrived Hanna was pouring booze down the sink and the two girls made up.

Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Spencer continued to get themselves in trouble this week. With the news that Noel (Brent Daugherty) had been the one who broke into Ashleyā€™s house on Alisonā€™s (Sasha Pieterse) request, Emily did a bit of investigation and discovered that Noel had evidence that could jeopardise Aliā€™s kidnap story. She broke into Noelā€™s locker, stole his car keys and removed the evidence from the glove compartment.

As she was finishing up her theft, Emily received a call from Spencer who had gone to the eye doctor. Whilst waiting she saw Jenna (Tammin Sursok) with a look-a-like which was revealed to be Sydney (Chloe Bridges). Emily arrived at the doctorā€™s and confronted Sydney realising her new friend had been lying to her. This argument continued later when Sydney tried to apologise to Emily but her words fell on deaf ears. Sydney explained that she did know Jenna and tried to explain but Emily was too angry to hear it. Instead Emily revealed her intention to keep an eye on Sydney in her new role as Assistant Coach to the swim team. One thing we learned; donā€™t cross Emily!

Worried that Noel would break into her house, Emily gave the information to Spencer who hurried to her parentsā€™ lake house to hide it. Upon arriving and locking the evidence in a cabinet, Spencer realised she wasnā€™t alone in the house and Noel was revealed to be waiting for her. A tense argument ensued with Spencer stabbing at Noel with a poker and telling him that she would keep the information safe so it couldnā€™t be used against Ali. Noel assured her it was only for insurance in case Ali double-crossed him but Spencer was having none of it.

Lieutenant Tanner (Roma Maffia) continued to poke around Rosewood starting with Aria who she questioned about Ezra (Ian Harding). Her questioning focused specifically on Ezraā€™s relationship to Shana (Aeriel Miranda) and led to Aria getting rather angry. Tanner then moved on to Ali and called her in to the police station where a man was being interviewed who claimed he had kidnapped her. Completely backing up her story, Ali looked on in shock as she was asked if he was the man who kidnapped her. It looks like Aā€™s next game is about to beginā€¦

Elsewhere in the episode Ellaā€™s engagement was called off and there looks to be a chance that she may reunite with her ex-husband Byron (Chad Lowe).

Pretty Little Liars continues Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC Family in the US.
