The Voice UK Live Semi-Final Recap

Who has made it though to next weeks final?

The semi-finals are here! Emma and Marvin kick of the show by reminding us who the remaining acts are, there’s team Tom Bizzi and Sally, team Kylie Jamie and Lee, team Ricky Christina Marie and Chris and team Will Sophie May and Jermaine. Kylie looks gorgeous tonight in a glitzy grecian dress.

Up first is Sally, who has impressed us so far in every round. Sally is singing ‘The Whole of the Moon’ and as ever sounds amazing but we are a tad worried that she is first, after the criticism The Voice has had for not producing any popstars so far we can’t help thinking that Sally might worry the powers that be.  Sally tells Emma she is channelling Ferne Cotton tonight and the coaches give her very positive feedback (surprise surprise).

On to Bizzi, who we are, truth be told, surprised has made it this far. A little treat for fact fans- Bizzi and Sally are both from Leicester. Bizzi sings the ballad ‘Everything has Changed’. It’s very smooth but not our cuppa tea. Kylie says he has delivered week upon week and Tom gets a bit teary.  Business as usual.

Next into the arena is team Ricky. Christina Marie tells us that she was a recluse growing up and takes us back to Bristol to see where it all began. Christina sings a take on ‘Bang Bang’ in front of a giant tiger head and samurai warrior dancers. There’s no doubting her popstar potential and amazing voice but it’s a bit shouty for us. Will’s warns his acts about the weapons; Kylie says she is in awe. Ricky says ‘this show is called the voice and you just heard it.’

Chris takes to the stage now, he has opted for ‘Smile’ – we would really like to have heard him sing something current instead but Chris says he loved jazz and blues and loved it and the coaches are on their feet.  Kylie says he was in the zone and delivered with confidence and passion. Tom says that is one of his fave songs and Charlie Chaplin wrote it (another fact for those fact fans!)

Kylie’s boys now, Lee stands on a rubbish tip and sings London Grammars ‘Strong.’ We approve! It’s definitely our favourite performance so far tonight. Lee is a little bit teary when it’s over but we don’t think he has anything to worry about. We like how much angst and emotion he puts into his performances.

Last week Kylie promised Jamie that if he was in the semi final she would be his roadie for the week and naturally Jamie holds her to this. Jamie sings ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ which is my mum’s favourite song, she does not think this lives up to George Michael’s original but we think it’s pretty good.  In fact team Kylie is on fire tonight! Will says it was elegant and flawless. Kylie finds it hard to speak wowed as she is and X Factor alert – Tom says he made it his own.

Powering though to team Will. We meet Jermaine’s mum and twin sister, who are lovely. We think the Jermaine’s would be good on Gogglebox!  Jermaine sings ‘Without You’ the David Guetta one not Mariah. It’s a jazzy little number. His final note goes on for about 10 minutes, Will, Emma and the gang are highly impressed.

Rounding up the solo performances is Sophie May, wearing a lot of head jewellery. That must be really heavy! Sophie practises her Lorde number in an old people’s home and a pub. ‘Royals’ is a brilliant song choice and we like her cage, she has upped her game since last week but we would think it’s more of a case of great song than great performance, sorry Sophie. We do enjoy Wills moves though, more of this please!

It’s time for our final 8 to sing with their coaches.  Will takes his acts for afternoon tea with their mums at The Savoy and calls them ‘momagers’. Sophie, Jermaine and Will sing ‘Let’s Dance’ and we love the production, very Marie Antionette. (We’re not mentioned Jermaine’s cape) and it’s surprisingly good.

Chris and Christina Marie shadow Ricky on a busy rock star day of Blue Peter and the One Show interviews. Team Ricky sing ‘You Really Got Me’ and it’s nice to see Ricky do his thing on stage for once.  Christina really gives it some welly and wins us around a bit after being quite annoying earlier.

Tom takes Bizzi and Sally busking in busy Covent Garden. Team Tom sing ‘Dancing in The Street’ and other than the very distracting Sixties dancers we like it a lot. It’s not quite as accomplished as the previous two but hearing Sally and Tom sing together makes us happy.

Kylie takes her team to her gig and they are very excited to get into her dressing room. Kylie even demonstrates some of the ‘Sexercise’ gym ball moves for them.  Team Kylie sing her new single ‘Into the Blue’ and have a really cool dinner table stage production but it doesn’t showcase the boys voices very well, we love Miss Minogue but think she could have chosen something a little more team friendly.

The Voice US coach Shakira now, being as sultry as ever with her new song ‘Empire’.  Next we find out who from team Tom going through to the final and it’s… Sally! Good work Sally, well deserved. It’s the final verdict for team Ricky. The artist with the most public votes is Christina Marie. She cries. Chris says he is so pleased to have got this far.

Before we find out who will be taking the last two places in the final line-up, Enquique Inglesias sings his song ‘Freak’ and gets all the coaches up throwing some shapes. Now the time is nigh for team Kylie. The public has put through….Jamie. We think it’s a shame both of these can’t go through to the final. Completing the line-up from Team Will is…Jermaine! So that’s it the final four Jamie, Sally, Jermaine and Christina Marie will battle it out next week.
