UK’s Eurovision Song Contest entry revealed

Singer-songwriter Molly Smitten-Downes is to represent the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The BBC made the announcement today and confirmed that the 26-year-old from Leicestershire will be performing her own song Children of the Universe. Molly was discovered through BBC Introducing and invited to compose and perform a song for the competition.

Molly has been singing and composing songs for over 10 years. In 2012 she was awarded Best Urban/Pop Act at Live and Unsigned and in 2013 she won Best Song at the Best of British Unsigned Music Awards.

Talking about representing the UK molly said, “I’m so excited for everyone to hear ‘Children of The Universe’. I’m so happy with it. To represent the United Kingdom in such a huge competition, not only as a singer and performer but as a songwriter is an unbelievable honour. I hope I can do us proud”.

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Sunday 10th May in Copenhagen, Denmark. The show will be broadcast on BBC One HD with commentary by Graham Norton.
