Winnie The Pooh Laureate 2014 launched

Disney UK has launched a new storytelling contest to find the Winnie The Pooh Laureate 2014.

The announcement follows the recent news that BookTrust named Winnie The Pooh as No.5 in the nation’s favourite children’s books. The Winnie The Pooh Laureate will be awarded to the person whose story celebrates their area’s local history and landmarks in a unique way whilst incorporating Winnie The Pooh and Friends.

Budding writers must submit their own story of 500 words or less and the five best writers will be crowned Winnie The Pooh Laureate. The overall winner will be chosen from those five.

“We have launched the Winnie the Pooh Laureate competition as a testament of our commitment to storytelling and to reinvigorate the nation’s enthusiasm for sharing original stories. Whether it’s a family day out or some bonding time with your child in a local park or at the seaside, these moments are all key in providing a bank of memories to draw upon when storytelling,” says Justine Finch, Winnie the Pooh Marketing Director for The Walt Disney Company, UK & Ireland.

The five regional Winnie The Pooh Laureates will have the chance to read their story to a gathering crowd at their local Disney Store, have their story printed in a special book and win a goodie bag of Winnie The Pooh merchandise.

The competition closes on 28th January 2014. Head over to www.facebook.com/WinniethePoohUKandIreland for more information and to enter.
