Puerto Rican superstar took to the stage at the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show last night, following a controversial build-up to his performance.
The star was announced as the performer for this year's Halftime show last year, and the reaction stoked plenty of debate. Bad Bunny is the first star to perform completely in Spanish during his performance, and that seemed to anger some parts of America so much that an alternate Halftime show was set up by Turning Point USA featuring Kid Rock, Gabby Barrett, Brantley Gilbert and Lee Brice.
Undeterred, Bad Bunny took to the stage at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California for a performance that was much a celebration as it was a musical event. He opened his performance in a sugar cane field with his huge hit ‘Tití me preguntó' and the 14-minute epic saw him performing on top of a casita, flanked by dancers. ‘Yo perreo sola' was a highlight as Bad Bunny turned the stadium into a huge party.
Lady Gaga, who has previously performed the Halftime show, appeared to perform a salsa version of her hit ‘Die With a Smile' before joining Bad Bunny for a dance. Fellow Puerto Rican, and Latin star, Ricky Martin also appeared as a guest performing ‘Lo que le pasó a Hawaii' before Bad Bunny launched into ‘El apagón'. Pedro Pascal and Karol G were among the other stars seen on stage during the performance.
Bad Bunny brought his performance to a close with ‘DtMF' and he named all of the states in the US. Widely expected to make a political statement, the star chose instead to let the music do the talking and his message of unity rang loud and clear. At the end of the performance, ‘the only thing more powerful than hate is love' flashed up on a billboard.
