Review: Country Thunder 2025 delivers an unforgettable weekend

Country Thunder — North America’s largest country music festival brand — showed once again why it sits at the top of the festival hierarchy with a blockbuster return to Florida. Held at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, the 2025 edition brought together a mix of superstar headliners, rising talent, and surprise appearances over three electrifying days, reaffirming its reputation as a can’t-miss celebration of country music culture.

From the moment gates opened, the energy was electric. Friday night set the tone with Riley Green's set featuring a memorable appearance from Ella Langley. Their duets on ‘Don’t Mind If I Do' and ‘You Look Like You Love Me' were already buzzworthy, but the moment turned historic when country legend Reba McEntire appeared via jumbotron to present Langley with the ACM Award for Visual Media of the Year — a groundbreaking nod to Langley as both performer and director. The crowd erupted, with the media swiftly picking up the story.

Friday also featured Dillon Carmichael paying tribute to Toby Keith with ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy' and revealing, for the first time, the June 13 release date for his next album. The announcements kept rolling in as Chayce Beckham premiered a new track, ‘Old Fashioned,' which was met with wild enthusiasm from fans eager for more.

Off the stage, the experience was equally dynamic. Drew Baldridge surprised attendees with an impromptu meet-and-greet, spending over an hour signing autographs and snapping selfies. Blake Shelton super-fans Madison Marilla and Tyler White, recognisable from Love On The Spectrum, were seen living out a dream by meeting the country icon in person. Celebrities from all corners of culture — including comedian Bert Kreischer and Tampa Bay Buccaneers players — made appearances, adding to the event’s buzz and atmosphere.

Saturday night turned into a full-blown showcase of country excellence. Blake Shelton headlined with a hit-packed set that kept the stadium on its feet. Ashley McBryde’s commanding vocals soared, while Clint Black delivered a masterclass in country showmanship, getting the audience clapping, stomping, and singing along. Each performance underscored the depth and diversity of talent curated for the weekend.

The emotional high point came Sunday night with Jelly Roll’s headlining set. Known for his raw vulnerability and powerhouse vocals, he stunned the audience with soul-baring performances of ‘Heart of Stone,' ‘Need a Favor,' ‘Save Me' and ‘I Am Not Okay.' In a particularly moving moment, he invited a nine-year-old fan onstage to sing ‘Liar' with him, drawing cheers — and tears — from a captivated crowd. The weekend’s spirit of connection, surprise, and celebration never let up.

Beyond the main stage, the festival was packed with interactive programming. The Dancing With The Thunder line and partner dance competitions awarded custom belt buckles, while the Songwriters Showcase offered fans a behind-the-scenes look into the craft of hit-making. Notable songwriters like Brinley Addington, Heath Warren, and Abby Anderson shared the stories behind their hits, giving fans a rare glimpse into the songwriting process. Thrill rides like the Wall Of Death and Flying Dutchman, plus branded sponsor activations, kept fans entertained between sets.

Already declared a highlight of the year, Country Thunder Florida 2025 has earned its place in the upper echelon of live music experiences. It’s more than a festival — it’s a full-throttle celebration of music, memories, and the shared passion that unites country fans nationwide. With its return to Tampa already confirmed for next year, the countdown to the next Country Thunder Florida has officially begun.
