Acclaimed singer-songwriter Fancy Hagood released his latest song ‘Through' last Friday. (June 28) This poignant track serves as the debut single from his forthcoming sophomore album, expected this fall. ‘Through' encapsulates the emotional journey of overcoming heartbreak and discovering gratitude, embodying the theme of resilience that has marked Hagood’s personal and artistic journey.
Co-written with Caitlyn Smith, ‘Through' is a powerful anthem for anyone who has faced the pain of a broken heart and emerged stronger. The song's heartfelt lyrics and soulful melody capture the essence of embracing emotions and finding strength in vulnerability.
“The last two years, I have been working on my sophomore album,” Hagood shared. “It started out with a song that we never finished, about living in a small house with my partner. As life happened, I found myself in the midst of a crippling breakup. I had never experienced anxiety and stress the way I did in the aftermath.”
Hagood embraced the full spectrum of his emotions during this major life change, which led to an unexpected musical transformation. “Immediately, I thought I would start writing sad songs about the heartbreak I was experiencing. I found myself in writing rooms with close friends and artists that I love, like Caitlyn Smith. When talking about the pain, the sadness, the newness, the freedom… that's when gratitude entered the chat! It was clear that the breakup anthem I thought I would be writing was actually a tale of thankfulness, growth, and resilience!”
The song ‘Through' set the tone for both the album and Hagood's healing process. “We wrote ‘Through' in about an hour, and it was obvious to me that this song was not only important to my own personal journey but also to the album I was creating. I felt so desperate in the darkest moments of that season of my life. I wanted to write a song to remind myself and others that there is no escaping our emotions. You have to feel them. You have to make room. There is no way out… the only way is through!”
Hagood's summer is packed with touring alongside artists such as Maggie Rose, Joy Oladokun, and Orville Peck. This fall, he will embark on his first headlining tour in Europe, the Fly Away Tour.
