Jonathan Groff is the cover star for the new issue of OUT magazine.
The Glee star talks to the magazine about the arrival of his new HBO series Looking which starts in the US this weekend. Expected to run for 8 episodes, the show is directed by Weekend’s Andrew Haigh and is about a group of gay friends living in San Francisco. Groff stars alongside Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett in the show.
āOur show is less about people at the beginning in their 20s figuring out who they are,ā Groff says, āand more about people stepping into their lives in their 30s and 40s and finding their place in the world.ā
Talking about his decision to not have ‘hyper-successful’ characters, Haigh adds, āAll the characters are from different socioeconomic backgrounds, different ethnicities ā that can happen a lot more readily in the gay community,ā says Haigh. āWhat you connect to initially is your sexuality, not your age or where youāve been to school.ā The characters in Looking, he says, are ānot aspiring to be rich. Theyāre not aspiring to have lots of sex. Theyāre aspiring to have happier lives, more fulfilled lives.ā
