Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ shatters global records

Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,' has officially made history, earning over 4 million album-equivalent units in the U.S. and 5.5 million worldwide during its first week — the biggest debut ever recorded. The album, which immediately shot to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, continues Swift’s unprecedented run of success, with more than 1.5 billion global streams marking the largest album debut of 2025.

Reflecting on the milestone, Swift shared, “I’ll never forget how excited I was in 2006 when my first album sold 40,000 copies in its first week. I was 16 and couldn’t even fathom that that many people would care enough about my music to invest their time and energy into it. Since then I’ve tried to meet and thank as many people as I could who have given me the chance to chase this insane dream. Here we are all these years later and a hundred times that many people showed up for me this week. I have 4 million thank you’s I want to send to the fans, and 4 million reasons to feel even more proud of this album than I already was. Thank you for going out to celebrate this project in the movie theaters, investing in vinyl, streaming, watching the video, buying CDs, reading the poems I wrote inside the packaging, and immersing yourselves in ‘The Life of a Showgirl.' I’ll cherish this feeling forever.”

The album marks Swift’s 15th No. 1 on the Billboard 200, breaking records for the most No. 1 albums by a solo artist and extending her streak of 11 consecutive studio albums debuting at the top of the chart. Including her re-recordings, Swift has achieved 15 consecutive No. 1 debuts and now holds 87 total weeks at No. 1 — more than any artist in the 21st century.

Its lead single, ‘The Fate of Ophelia,' became her 13th No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, tying her for the fourth most No. 1s in chart history and making her the only solo artist ever to have both 13 No. 1 singles and 13 No. 1 albums. Every track from ‘The Life of a Showgirl' debuted in the top 12 of the Hot 100, an unmatched achievement that continues her domination following ‘Midnights' and ‘The Tortured Poets Department.'

Swift also broke records in physical and digital formats. The album sold over 1 million vinyl copies in its first week — the largest vinyl sales week ever recorded — and achieved record-breaking streaming numbers across major platforms. On Spotify, ‘The Fate of Ophelia' became the fastest song to surpass 100 million streams, while the album’s 250 million opening-day streams made it the platform’s biggest standard-edition debut. Swift now holds the top four biggest album debuts and the top 19 biggest song debuts in Spotify history.

Globally, The Life of a Showgirl debuted at No. 1 in more than 17 countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and Spain. With record-breaking chart placements, streaming milestones, and unmatched fan engagement, Taylor Swift has once again proven her reign as the defining artist of her generation.
