National Album Day 2025 unveils limited edition vinyl releases

National Album Day has unveiled a special slate of exclusive limited edition releases to mark this year’s event, taking place on Saturday, October 18. Now in its eighth year, the annual celebration will focus on rock music, bringing together a mix of classic reissues and contemporary albums available through independent and specialist music stores across the UK as well as online. Many of the titles are already available for pre-order.

Launched in 2018 by the BPI and ERA with BBC Radio 2 as broadcast partner, National Album Day was created to spotlight the enduring cultural impact of the album format. Since its debut, vinyl sales have surged by a staggering 3163% over 17 years, proving the format’s continued relevance. Earlier this week, Wolf Alice, Architects, Nova Twins, and Iron Maiden were announced as official Album Champions for the 2025 edition, highlighting their support for a genre that continues to dominate vinyl sales, accounting for more than half of all Official Chart vinyl album sales in 2024.

This year’s lineup features 60 collectible records, many pressed on limited edition coloured vinyl. Among the highlights is the 50th anniversary edition of Queen’s landmark 1975 album A Night At The Opera, featuring the timeless anthem “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Other notable inclusions are Amy Macdonald’s 2010 sophomore release A Curious Thing, The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Psychocandy, Teenage Fanclub’s Grand Prix, and Welsh entries from Stereophonics (Language. Sex. Violence. Other?) and Manic Street Preachers (This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours). Punk and new wave are represented with Sex Pistols’ Never Mind The Bollocks and The Stranglers’ Rattus Norvegicus.

Several other albums celebrating their golden anniversaries are also included, such as Patti Smith’s groundbreaking debut Horses, Status Quo’s On The Level, and Steve Hillage’s Fish Rising. Fans can also look forward to reissues from music legends including Elvis Presley (From Elvis in Memphis), Lou Reed (Transformer), Jimi Hendrix (Axis: Bold As Love), and The Rolling Stones (Their Satanic Majesties Request). Contemporary additions come from SKIN, Kasabian, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Liam Gallagher’s As You Were, ensuring a balance of heritage and modernity.

With such a wide-reaching list of releases, National Album Day 2025 promises to be another unmissable moment for fans and collectors alike, offering a chance to celebrate rock’s storied past and its vibrant present.
