Marcus Hummon and Sara Evans team up for ‘I Taste a Liquor Never Brewed’

Marcus Hummon and Sara Evans have collaborated again for new song ‘I Taste a Liquor Never Brewed'.

Taken from Hummon's critically acclaimed ‘Songs for Emily' project, the song brings together the two longtime collaborators whose creative chemistry dates back to co-writing Evans’ iconic hit, ‘Born to Fly'.

Their reunion on this track is both heartfelt and poetic – perfectly fitting for a song that reinterprets the work of one of America’s most iconic literary figures, Emily Dickinson. The single follows Hummon’s recent release of ‘Letter to the World' (featuring Darrell Scott) and further deepens the project's mission to bridge Dickinson’s visionary poetry with roots-driven musical storytelling.

“'I Taste a Liquor Never Brewed' is Emily Dickinson expressing her love of nature—getting metaphorically ‘drunk’ on the transcendent beauty of a summer day,” says Hummon. “I chose Sara for this song because she communicates joy in a unique way in country music. Her voice brings out the playful yet profound spirit of Emily’s words.”

Evans adds, “I am so honored to be a part of Marcus’ tribute album to Emily Dickinson’s writing! She was such a strong female voice in the world. We all know what it’s like to have to be strong at times in our lives. It's why poets like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton are so important to so many female writers, like me. Emily had a fun and funny streak and even mischievous at times in her poetry. I like to write about deep and serious topics but then come back with joy and humor, much like Emily. I am so lucky to have played a part in this amazing project with my friend and “Born to Fly” co-writer.”

The ‘Songs for Emily' project began with an EP released last year, featuring collaborations with artists like Mary Chapin Carpenter (‘I Dwell in Possibility') and musical interpretations of Dickinson’s iconic works, including ‘Because I Could Not Stop for Death', ‘Hope Is the Thing with Feathers', ‘Wild Nights' and more. The full-length ‘Songs for Emily' LP will be released later this year via 3686 Records, the label founded by Marcus’s son, artist Levi Hummon.
