Lainey Wilson recently debuted her ‘Apple Music Sessions EP‘, which was recorded in London, and she also spoke with Kelleigh Bannen for Apple Music's The Kelleigh Bannen Show.
During the chat, Wilson opens up to Bannen, telling stories that link to the ‘Apple Music Sessions EP'. That collection features covers of The Beatles’ ‘Come Together' and Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’, as well as a reimagined version of her song ‘Devil Don’t Go There.’

Lainey Wilson tells Apple Music how The Beatles influenced her musically…
I feel like everybody listened to the song growing up, but the first C2C that we ever did over here, we played that song. And I remember it was coming out or either going into a song of mine called “High on Somethin'” because it's a very similar groove, and I feel like I was influenced by that song when writing “High on Somethin'”. And I just remember everybody getting fired up and we were trying to make it our own. And I remember being on stage and we just had so much fun with it. And then last year when we were here, we got to record a song at Abbey Road, and just really felt that energy in the building. And just trying to wrap your head around how influential The Beatles really are and what they have done to every single genre. It's mind-boggling, and you can't completely wrap your head around it, but this was just our way, as a band, we like to jam. We like to just … they are jammers. They are musicians, musicians, musicians. And we have so much fun just going off the rails and just jamming. And too, I want everybody to see how incredible they are and how good they are.
Lainey Wilson talks to Apple Music about using cover songs to hook an audience in during her early shows…
I remember playing this place called Pickle Barrel where I played nothing but covers and everybody's requesting songs. And then I'd be like, “Okay. I got their attention. Now's the opportunity to play one of mine.” And then I play it and everybody's like, “I don’t know this one.” And so I would try it out. But yes, the other way too, trying things out and sometimes it don't land, but sometimes you just got to do it. And then it's just at the end of the day, you're not going to know, unless you just get out there and you do it, whether they love it or hate it.

It’s a very sad song. I don’t do a lot of sad songs. I love him. I think he's just cool. And he just keeps it about the music. You can just tell, I watched his documentary and it really inspired me to see how he works, and how he just goes into his hole, and if he’s not feeling creative, he fights for it. You know what I'm saying? He fights for that creativity, which I love.
Lainey Wilson talks to Apple Music about performing for fans in the U.K…
Well, the first time I got to experience an audience over here was 2018. It was Country Music Week. And so I had just signed a record deal and then we had come over here, and I'll never forget it, I was at Bush Hall, and it was just me and my guitar. I was opening up, and you could hear a pin drop at first. And then I was like, “Man, I hope they like it.” And then all of a sudden they started singing the song back to me. And that was the first time I ever heard anybody, like a crowd actually singing back to me. I'm telling you, they see you on a flier around town or they see you, they see your name on the internet, and you're coming to town and you're a country music artist, they are going to go listen to everything that you have ever put out, and be ready for it when you play it. It is like they lean in, they listen. It's a thrill for a storyteller, a songwriter. There's nothing wrong with a beer drinking crowd, you’ve got to have those too, you know? But there is something very special about a crowd that really sinks their feet into trying to figure out why you wrote it this way, or why you put the song on the record in this order. And that's the way that it feels, at least. And I think it's definitely… It's not oversaturated over here. And so they are excited when you come to town. It’s awesome.
