Hammer Films has announced the worldwide 4K debut of its genre-defining 1955 cult classic ‘The Quatermass Xperiment', releasing as a meticulously restored Limited Collector’s Edition this September. This marks the first time the film has been made available in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in the UK, offering fans a chance to experience the eerie tension of this landmark film like never before.
Directed by Val Guest and based on Nigel Kneale’s iconic BBC serial, ‘The Quatermass Xperiment' follows the harrowing story of an astronaut who returns to Earth… changed. As his body grotesquely mutates, his humanity slips further away — sparking a desperate struggle by scientists and authorities to contain a chilling extraterrestrial threat. Blending Cold War paranoia with body horror and groundbreaking practical effects, the film laid the foundation for decades of British science-fiction.
Now, 70 years after its original release, Hammer has pulled the film from its vaults for an extensive restoration, lovingly remastered from original film elements. The result is a 5-disc 4K UHD and Blu-ray box set packed with high-definition horror, restored visuals, and crystal-clear sound.
This release has a new 5.1 surround sound mix, plus the original mono soundtrack. You'll also find two brand-new documentaries — one chronicling the life and influence of writer Nigel Kneale, the other diving into the film’s creation. A behind-the-scenes featurette on the restoration process showcases Hammer’s mission to revive its cinematic legacy.
The first 10 pre-orders via Hammer’s official website will receive a limited-edition quad poster, and the next 500 orders will come with a special ‘Quatermass Xperiment' mission patch — an exclusive nod to the film’s space-horror roots.
