Our Place is the viral cookware brand that’s loved by celebrities and home cooks alike. The colourful products are Instagram-ready and the range is ever-expanding. Taking care of all of your kitchen needs (and then some), Our Place is really cornering the cookware market and encouraging a new generation of cooks to get into the kitchen. The brand’s newest launch, the Espresso Home Cook Duo, is a collaboration between Our Place and AD100 celebrity interior designer Brigette Romanek. Known for designing spaces for the cream of the celebrity crop including Beyoncé and Demi Moore, Romanek who says, “I designed the Espresso Home Cook Duo to elevate your kitchen. This is art in your kitchen. And it performs like a dream. You need this.” Is she right?
The Home Cook Duo is a two-piece cookware set that replaces multiple kitchen items, saving you space (and washing up). Comprising the Always Pan 2.0 and the Perfect Pot, these two cookware items will take care of most of your kitchen needs. You’ll likely have seen both of these items on your social media feed but the Espresso Home Cook Duo may just be the most gorgeous-looking cookware set I’ve ever seen. Its deep brown colour is striking and it will stand out in your kitchen. It pairs nicely with paler kitchens (mine kitchen décor is cream) and its bold colour really does draw the eye.
One of the great things about the Espresso Home Cook Duo is that the items can be used on the stove (including induction) or in the oven. Both items are made from aluminium meaning that they heat up fast and even, and they are really lightweight. Unlike other brands on the market, these aren’t heavy when empty making them a good choice for cooks of all ages.
Does the cookware live up to the hype though? Let’s first take a look at the Always Pan 2.0, which comes with a steamer basket, a steam-release lid and a dark Beechwood Spatula that nests on the handle. The Always Pan 2.0 is made with Thermakind™, Our Place’s toxin-free nonstick coating, meaning you don’t need to worry about toxic materials such as PFAs. This cookware item is incredibly versatile and you have plenty of options. You can use the steamer basket, which doubles as a colander, to steam vegetables or cook noodles, and once removed, you can let you imagination run free with the pan. Simply add a bit of oil, heat it for around 30 seconds on medium and the nonstick coating kicks into action. Whether you want to make a simple stir-fry, cook a veggie-rich omelette or crisp up some firm tofu, the pan will impress you. My favourite thing to make with this pan is a Gochujang Tofu Bowl as it crisps the tofu up fantastic and you can get a really thick sauce if you leave the pan on low heat for around 5-10 minutes.
The Perfect Pot is your go-to for batch cooking or making large amounts of food like rice or pasta. The lid has a built-in strainer meaning that it’s super simple to drain once your food is cooked and it has a huge 5.2 litre capacity, making it perfect for slow-cooked stews or soups. It also comes with a Beechwood Spoon that rests on the handle. I made a coconut beef curry in mine, frying ingredients and the meat on the stove, before popping it into the oven for 5 hours to cook on low. The end result was divine – meat falling apart the minute the fork hit it, a rich deep flavour sauce and best-of all you can serve straight from the pot (I recommend Our Place pleat trivet to complete your table, and also to protect it from any burn marks from your steaming hot Perfect Pot). You can also buy a roasting rack, which transforms your pot into the perfect place to roast a meat joint for a Sunday roast.
Another advantage of the Espresso Home Cook Duo, like all Our Place products, is that it’s incredible easy to clean. Thanks to the nonstick coating, the majority of dirt and grime lifts right off with just a gentle rub of a sponge and your usual washing up liquid and hot water combo. Our Place recommends you don’t scrub these items as you may end up damaging them, but you shouldn’t need to. Any stubborn bits of food can be removed with a bicarbonate of soda and water solution. Gone are the days when you have to leave your pans soaking for eternity!
