2024 is finally over and we're in the first days of 2025, the time when nobody can be bothered to do anything thanks to the cold weather and the post-Christmas blues.
With snow forecast in the coming days, it's the perfect time to settle down on your sofa, finish off the last of your Christmas chocolate and watch some great TV. With so much to choose from, sometimes you need a helping hand and that's exactly what we're here for.
We've picked 5 TV shows that are perfect to binge and guaranteed to keep the January Blues at bay. Keep reading to find out more…
1. Squid Game Season 2 (Netflix)
The first season of the South Korean show ‘Squid Game' broke Netflix records and it's gone on to become the streamer's biggest show ever. It's no surprise then that a second season has been in the works (as well as a third and final season), and it finally dropped on Boxing Day. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) may have survived the game in the first season but he's asking to be put back in for a second go around. Expect twists, jaw-dropping cliffhangers and plenty of surprises!
2. The Manny Season 2 (Netflix)
‘The Manny‘ has had little fanfare outside of South America but this charming romantic comedy deserves a much wider audience. Iván Amozurrutia is back at Manny Gabriel, hoping to win back Jimena (Sandra Echeverría), after he walked away from her and her family following the events of season 1. As the two characters are drawn together again for business reasons, Gabriel is suspicious of Jimena's new fiancé and is determined to expose him. Funny, heart-warming and just generally lovely, this is a show you should try! (Excuse the dubbed clip, it's all we can find for the new season!)
3. Strike: The Ink Black Heart (iPlayer)
JK Rowling struck gold again writing her ‘Strike' series under the name Robert Galbraith. With a new book on the horizon for 2025, it's timely that the sixth book in the series ‘The Ink Black Heart', has been released on BBC iPlayer. In this mystery Strike (Tom Burke) and Robin (Holliday Grainger) are hired to look into an online harassment campaign after the co-creator of an animated online series is found dead. We loved the book and this four-episode series is a must-watch!
4. Dexter: Original Sin (Paramount+)
New episodes are still rolling out weekly but this ‘Dexter' prequel is far better than it has any right to be. Taking us back to the origins of Dexter Morgan (played by Patrick Gibson), who is embracing his ‘dark passenger' by killing people under the supervision of his adopted father Harry (Christian Slater), this series captures the spirit of the original and is just as addictive. Kudos to the casting director for getting the characters right! It's also great to see Sarah Michelle Gellar back in a major series, with the added bonus of Patrick Dempsey.
5. Shrinking Season 2 (Apple TV+)
‘Shrinking' completed the roll-out of its second season on Christmas Eve, so now you can watch the entire season uninterrupted. Jimmy (Jason Segel) continues to battle through life, balancing his job as a psychiatrist with raising his teenage daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell), and he's thrown a curveball when Lewis (Brett Goldstein), the man responsible for the death of his wife, re-enters his life. Funny, touching and surprisingly emotional, ‘Shrinking' is the best show you're probably not watching right now.
