British glam rock legends The Darkness have unleashed their electrifying new single, ‘I Hate Myself,’ following its exclusive premiere with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 last night (December 10). The track is the second release from their highly anticipated eighth studio album, ‘Dreams On Toast' set to drop on March 28, 2025, via Cooking Vinyl. Fans can pre-order the album now via the band's official website.
About the Single
‘I Hate Myself’ is a high-octane mix of punk rock energy and glam rock swagger, featuring frontman Justin Hawkins at his self-deprecating best. The song delivers soaring falsettos, blistering riffs, and a bombastic chorus that captures the chaos of a late-night jukebox spinning tracks from Status Quo, Slade, Cheap Trick, and Motörhead all at once.
Reflecting on the track, Hawkins shares:
“At last, a joyous, raucous celebration of self-loathing. Without regrets, we learn less from our experiences. This uplifting ode to remorse is our way of ensuring we grow, avoiding the same mistakes, and ensuring history doesn’t repeat itself.”
Exclusive Performances and Intimate Shows
Fans will get their first taste of ‘I Hate Myself’ live today, with exclusive performances during six sold-out Rough Trade in-store events happening in London, Nottingham, and Liverpool this week. These intimate shows will also feature the band performing tracks from Dreams On Toast, including their previous single, ‘The Longest Kiss.’
UK Headline Tour with Ash
Following their Rough Trade appearances, The Darkness will embark on a massive UK headline tour in March 2025, culminating in a huge show at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on March 29.
Joining them on the road will be Northern Irish indie-rock icons Ash, who previously supported The Darkness during their legendary ‘Permission to Land' tour over two decades ago.
