Megan Moroney rings in the holidays with new EP ‘Blue Christmas …duh’

Country artist Megan Moroney, signed with Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records, is embracing the holiday spirit with her latest release ‘Blue Christmas …duh' — a surprise EP featuring two brand-new original songs along with a fresh take on the holiday classic ‘Blue Christmas.' Fans can now listen to the festive collection here as Moroney gives the holiday season her own unique, country-inspired twist.

The EP opens with ‘All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy,' a lively tune written by Moroney, Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter, and Micah Carpenter. This honky-tonk holiday anthem combines Moroney's signature sassy style with upbeat rhythms and saloon-style piano, setting the stage for a season of cowboy wish fulfilment. As she humorously pleads to Santa, “Put him in some new Luccheses / Make him call me baby / ‘Cause swear I’ve been good all year,” the track captures Moroney’s fun, flirty side with the whip-smart lyrics that have quickly made her one of country’s brightest stars.

Produced by Kristian Bush, the EP then slows things down with ‘Christmas Morning,' a heart-wrenching ballad that adds a dose of heartbreak to the holiday season. Co-written by Moroney and the Carpenters along with Williams, the track tells the story of a Christmastime breakup, contrasting the joy of the season with the sadness of a love that’s come undone. “'Tis the season, you’ve got reasons / I know I’ve got mine / We’ve been falling apart all year, and today I can’t ignore it,” Moroney sings in a gut-punch of a chorus. Fans of Moroney’s ‘Emo Cowgirl' persona will find plenty to connect with in this soulful addition to country’s tradition of holiday heartache.

The EP concludes with a beautifully soulful cover of ‘Blue Christmas,' which Moroney reimagines with soft, resonant vocals and gentle steel guitar. Paying tribute to the Billy Hayes and Jay Johnson classic made famous by Elvis Presley, Moroney’s version is both nostalgic and uniquely hers, capturing the melancholy of the season with graceful simplicity. Each track on ‘Blue Christmas …duh' is accompanied by a specially created lyric video, further inviting listeners to experience the emotion and warmth of her holiday debut.

‘Blue Christmas …duh' arrives shortly after Moroney’s deluxe release of ‘Am I Okay? (I’ll Be Fine)' a chart-topping album with three additional tracks that continue to make waves across streaming platforms. The deluxe album’s standout piano ballad, ‘Break It Right Back' streamed over a million times within its first 24 hours of release, solidifying Moroney’s status as one of country’s top artists this year.
