Ringo Starr announces new Country album ‘Look Up’ for 2025 release

Legendary drummer and multi-platinum artist Ringo Starr is set to release his brand-new country album ‘Look Up' on January 10, 2025. The album, produced by the renowned T Bone Burnett, features 11 original tracks recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles. Fans can get an early taste of the project with the release of the lead single, ‘Time On My Hands,' available to stream today. Pre-order right here.

Nine of the 11 songs on ‘Look Up' were written or co-written by Burnett, with additional contributions from Billy Swan, Paul Kennerly, and Starr himself. Starr not only lends his voice but also plays drums on every track. The album’s closing song, ‘Thankful,' features Alison Krauss and was co-written by Starr and Bruce Sugar. The project brings together some of Nashville's finest talents, including Billy Strings, Larkin Poe, Lucius, Molly Tuttle, and Krauss.

Reflecting on the new project, Starr shared, “I’ve always loved country music. When I asked T Bone to write me a song, I didn’t expect it to be a country song—but it was, and it was so beautiful. What started as an EP idea turned into an album, and I’m so glad we made that decision. I want to thank T Bone and all the great musicians who contributed to this record. It was a joy to make, and I hope it’s a joy to listen to.”

Burnett also expressed his excitement about working with Starr, saying, “Ringo changed the way every drummer played, and he’s always been a fantastic singer, especially with rockabilly and ballads. Making this album with him was a dream come true. This album is my way of saying thank you for all he’s given to music.”

‘Look Up' marks Starr’s first country album in over 50 years, following his 1970 release, ‘Beaucoups of Blues.' His lifelong love of country music has been a constant throughout his career, from his work with The Beatles to his solo projects.

In addition to the album, Starr will perform two headline shows at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium on January 14 and 15, 2025. Tickets go on sale October 25, 2024. Fans can also catch Starr and Burnett on TalkShopLive® on October 22 for an exclusive conversation about the album.
