Rising country star Kassi Ashton has just released her latest track, ‘Son Of A Gun,' via MCA Nashville, giving fans a taste of what's to come in her highly anticipated debut album ‘Made From The Dirt' set to drop on September 20, 2024.
The new song, characterised by its dynamic guitars and simmering backbeat, highlights Kassi’s powerful vocal delivery. Through gritty verses and a catchy chorus, she boldly declares, “I’m a son of a bitch and a son of a gun.”
Discussing the creation of ‘Son Of A Gun,' Kassi shared, “This was the last song I wrote for the album. I wrote it with Jason Nix and Driver Williams, who plays guitar with Eric Church. It was the first time writing with Jason, and he warmed my heart because he had done so much research: he had stalked me on Instagram and gotten as much of a taste of who I am as he could without ever meeting me. His idea was like, ‘daughter of a gun,’ and I was like, I'd rather be called son of a gun — I always say I'm Daddy's little boy anyway.”
Kassi began 2024 with the fan-favorite ‘Called Crazy' currently climbing the Top 40 at Country Radio. Her bold confidence shines through as she sings about the men who called her crazy but keep coming back for more. In May, she received an ACM nomination for New Female Artist of the Year.
Last month, Kassi gave fans another preview of ‘Made From The Dirt' with ‘I Don’t Wanna Dance.' The song has been gaining traction on streaming platforms and received critical acclaim. Music Row praised the track’s “bluesy vibe” and “sultry and inviting” mid-tempo meditation, while Rolling Stone named it one of the “Songs You Need To Know.”
‘Made From The Dirt' showcases Kassi’s unique style and tells her personal story through ten powerful tracks. From the title track to the reflective finale Juanita' Kassi blends country with rock ‘n’ roll spirit and raw vulnerability, offering a deeply personal and authentic collection of songs.
In 2023, Ashton’s single ‘Drive You Out Of My Mind' became a Top 40 hit, with its companion track, ‘Drive You Out Of My Mind (Dark Room Edition),' receiving praise from Billboard, Music Row, and Country Now. She also completed a tour with Old Dominion, bringing her rich vocals to audiences nationwide. This year, Kassi continues to perform headlining shows and festival appearances and will join Jamey Johnson on the ‘What A View Tour' this July.
