Walter Presents is bringing gripping true crime drama ‘Dignity' to Channel 4 and C4 Streaming this week.
The series stars Götz Otto, Devid Striesow, Nils Rovira-Muñoz and Marcel Rodríguez. It was created by María Elena Wood, Patricio Pereira and Andreas Gutzeit.
Based on true events, this gripping series explores the shocking crimes and human rights abuse committed by former Nazi officer Paul Schäfer (Götz Otto) at Colonia Dignidad. Nestled in the heart of the remote Chilean countryside and shut off entirely from the outside world, Colonia Dignidad was a German religious cult, whose quaint appearance concealed unthinkable horror.
With the support of dictator Augusto Pinochet, the colony became the site of a decades-long history of kidnapping, torture, and appalling child abuse. After the fall of Pinochet in 1990, and as accusations form survivors continue to mount, the extent of the horrors that took place at the colony begin to emerge, and prosecutor Leo Ramírez (Marcel Rodriguez) is tasked with bringing Schäfer to justice.
As a former member of the colony, however, Ramírez’s own personal history is inextricably entwined with the colony’s history of abuse, and he must relive the traumatic past he fought to forget in order to bring the truth to light. Ramírez’s uphill battle against a legacy of corruption will leave in its wake a story of deception, trauma, courage, and the fight to protect human dignity.
Walter Presents: ‘Dignity' will launch on Channel 4 on 12th November 2023 at 11pm. The full boxset will be available from Friday 10th November via C4 Streaming.
