Paul McCartney’s creative rebirth explored in new one-night-only film ‘Man on the Run’

What happens the morning after leaving the most influential rock band of all time? Paul McCartney: Man on the Run sets out to answer that question, charting one of the most fascinating reinventions in modern music history. The intimate new feature documentary, directed by Oscar, Emmy and Grammy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, explores McCartney’s life and creative resurgence following the break-up of The Beatles. The film will be released in cinemas worldwide for one night only on Thursday 19th February 2026, distributed by Trafalgar Releasing. Tickets for the first screenings in select cinemas go on sale Wednesday 4th February via https://manontherun.film.

Released in April 1970, McCartney’s first solo album marked the beginning of a new chapter. When asked what came next, his answer was simple: to grow up. Paul McCartney: Man on the Run captures the decade that followed, tracing McCartney’s transformation from the end of The Beatles through the formation and rise of Wings. Using remarkable archival footage, Linda McCartney’s photography and new interviews with Paul, Linda, Mary and Stella McCartney, along with Wings band members and contemporaries including Sean Ono Lennon, Mick Jagger and Chrissie Hynde, the film offers a candid and vulnerable portrait of an artist rebuilding from the ground up.

The documentary will screen theatrically in select territories around the world, with each cinema presentation including a bonus on-screen conversation between Paul McCartney and Morgan Neville, created exclusively for the big screen. A full list of participating cinemas and ticket links will be available at https://manontherun.film from Wednesday 4th February at 2pm GMT / 9am ET / 6am PT. Fans are encouraged to sign up to the film’s email newsletter for screening alerts and updates.

Paul McCartney: Man on the Run is produced by Tremolo in association with MPL Communications and Polygram Entertainment. Producers include Morgan Neville, Chloe Simmons and Meghan Walsh for Tremolo; Scott Rodger and Ben Chappell for MPL; and Michele Anthony and David Blackman for Polygram Entertainment. Executive producers include Paul McCartney and Caitrin Rogers. Following its theatrical event, the film will be available globally on Prime Video from 27th February across more than 240 countries and territories.

The documentary arrives as part of a wider cultural reappraisal and celebration of Wings. In 2025, the release of Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run, published by Liveright, W.W. Norton and Penguin, offered a landmark oral history of McCartney’s 1970s reinvention, described by The Sunday Times as “the story of a man who climbed every mountain, then set out to do it all over again.”

That momentum continued with the release of the WINGS self-titled collection, issued across multiple formats including a 32-track 3LP box set and new Dolby Atmos mixes. Personally curated by McCartney, the collection traces the band’s evolution into one of the biggest-selling acts of all time. The start of 2025 also marked 50 years of Venus and Mars, now available as a special half-speed master LP and newly mixed in Dolby Atmos.

Alongside these releases, McCartney completed another major leg of his Got Back tour, playing 18 cities across the United States and Canada throughout 2025. Together, these projects provide vital context for Man on the Run, positioning the film as a definitive chapter in the ongoing story of McCartney’s post-Beatles journey.
