Ashley McBryde returns with defiant new single ‘What If We Don’t’

Ashley McBryde is opening the door on her next musical chapter. The GRAMMY, CMA and ACM Award-winning singer-songwriter will release her new single, ‘What If We Don’t,' on Friday, January 23 via Warner Records Nashville, marking her first new music of the year and the beginning of what promises to be a major era ahead.

Built as a sweeping, anthemic ballad, ‘What If We Don’t' finds McBryde leaning into the kind of emotional reckoning she has made her signature. Driven by a restless melody and a vocal performance that simmers and surges in equal measure, the song challenges listeners to confront the choices they hesitate to make. It is a plea to live without regret, even when the outcome is uncertain, with McBryde anchoring every moment through raw intensity and conviction.

The song’s origins are as grounded as its message. McBryde says ‘What If We Don’t' was written alongside Terri Jo Box and Randall Clay during a reflective evening spent around a fire pit, looking back on moments when life could have taken a different turn. The song explores the leaps of faith people either take or avoid, and the reality of living with the consequences on both sides of that decision.

Set to impact country radio on February 23, the song also serves as the first preview of McBryde’s forthcoming fifth studio album, one of the most anticipated country releases on the horizon. While details of the record remain under wraps, the new single suggests a continuation of her fearless storytelling and emotional honesty.

Alongside the new music, McBryde is returning to the stage in an intimate way. She will revive her critically praised Redemption Residency in early 2026, beginning with a pair of Just Me + My Shadow solo acoustic shows on January 22 and 23 at Chief’s Neon Steeple on Nashville’s Lower Broadway. The residency launch offers fans a rare chance to experience McBryde’s songs in their most stripped-back form, setting the tone for what lies ahead in this next chapter.
