The Grand Ole Opry, in partnership with Virgin Music Group, has unveiled a powerful new version of what many consider the greatest country song of all time. A live duet of ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today' featuring George Jones and Alan Jackson is available now, offering fans a rare and emotional experience.
The track begins with Jones’ 1993 live performance on the Opry stage before transitioning seamlessly into Jackson’s moving rendition at Jones’ funeral in 2013. The result is a poignant blend of two of country music’s most enduring voices, linked across time and united by one of the genre’s most iconic songs.
The duet is one of the featured tracks on the forthcoming album ‘OPRY 100: Country’s Greatest Songs,' a special release celebrating the Opry’s centennial. The project includes 20 never-before-released live recordings from the Opry stage, showcasing moments that have defined country music history. Pre-order / Pre-save the album right here.
Jones and Jackson shared a deep respect for one another throughout their careers. Jackson often credited Jones as a major influence, while Jones himself once wrote a now-famous note thanking Jackson for ‘Keepin’ It Country.' Both artists are enshrined in the Country Music Hall of Fame, and this new release further cements their lasting legacies.
OPRY 100: Country’s Greatest Songs is part of an ongoing series of commemorative releases and events honoring the Opry’s 100th anniversary.
