Rising country artist Jenna Paulette has released a special duet version of ‘The Prophet (Grandaddy’s Song)' featuring award-winning singer-songwriter Ashley McBryde. The heartfelt collaboration, available now on all streaming platforms, adds new depth to the touching tribute originally featured on Paulette’s 2024 album ‘Horseback.'
The song, written by McBryde alongside country songwriting greats Matraca Berg and Lori McKenna, is a deeply personal reflection on Paulette’s late grandfather, who played a formative role in her life. “I grew up in a ranching family on the Texas/Oklahoma line in Thackerville, Oklahoma,” Paulette shared during a recent Grand Ole Opry appearance. “That Grandaddy that took me with him to check cows made a huge impact on me.”
After hearing the song from her label’s A&R team, Paulette asked to adapt the lyrics to honour her grandfather more directly. With the blessing of the songwriters, she made the tribute her own and included it on her ‘Horseback' album, which was released just a month before her daughter was born.
Now, with McBryde joining her on a duet version that incorporates new lyrics, the song becomes even more powerful. “I want my daughter, who is 7 months old, to be able to know my grandaddy because of this song,” Paulette said. Originally released on September 6, 2024, “The Prophet” continues to resonate with fans for its honest storytelling and emotional connection. Paulette describes her ‘Horseback' album as “a window into the way so many of us feel and the things we value,” and the new duet version of ‘The Prophet' perfectly captures that spirit.
