Cheshire-based artist Rob Wheeler has released his latest single, ‘Why Whisky Why?’, offering fans a new taste of his upcoming album ‘Leave Tomorrow,' due out on June 6, 2025.
A tongue-in-cheek, heartbreak-driven anthem, ‘Why Whisky Why?’ channels the spirit of Nashville with a country-pop sound steeped in classic storytelling and twangy guitar hooks. Combining radio-ready polish with raw emotion, the track blends drinking songs and introspection into a foot-tapping, modern country gem. “This one’s for every broken heart that’s ever stared into a glass, asking ‘Why did it have to be whisky?’” Wheeler says. “Country soul, storytelling, and drinking too much – you’ll feel this one.”
The single is accompanied by a lyric video and continues to build anticipation for ‘Leave Tomorrow,' Wheeler’s third studio album. Written during a four-month stay in Nashville, the album features collaborations with Grammy-nominated songwriters including Jeff Trott, Steve Dorff and Frank Liddell. The project marks a significant milestone for the Northern UK musician, who grew up absorbing the songs of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and The Eagles while dreaming of the American South.
“Growing up in the North West of England, Nashville represented to me what I imagine Hollywood represents to aspiring actors,” Wheeler reflects. “A mythical land that seems both untouchable and utterly irresistible. This record is not just driving and whisky and breakups. Every song is for the listener to discover in their own way. It’s the Hemingway iceberg theory – the deeper meanings are not always evident at the surface.”
Following the release of ‘Leave Tomorrow,' Rob Wheeler will take the album on the road with a headline UK tour, performing with his full band across a string of intimate venues:
- Wednesday 11th June – The Green Note, London
- Thursday 12th June – The Arena, Crewe
- Saturday 14th June – The Georgian Hotel, Coatbridge
- Sunday 15th June – Kazimier Stockroom, Liverpool
- Tuesday 17th June – Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre
- Thursday 19th June – The Railway Inn, Winchester

Raised in Cheshire by a single mother, Wheeler's musical journey began at college and evolved through years of touring and co-writing. A life-changing medical diagnosis pushed him into a dark period of depression and addiction, but through therapy and the support of those around him, he found his way back to music. Now, with ‘Leave Tomorrow,' he brings his unique blend of British roots and Americana influence full circle.
