The Folio Society unveils 100th anniversary limited edition of F Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby’

To mark the centennial of one of America’s greatest literary works, The Folio Society is releasing a stunning limited edition of The Great Gatsby on 10th April 2025 at 4pm. This deluxe collector’s version celebrates 100 years since F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Jazz Age masterpiece first hit bookshelves in 1925. It evokes the glamour of Jay Gatsby’s world.

Limited to just 500 hand-numbered copies and priced at £350, this edition features 13 darkly elegant illustrations by celebrated Japanese-American artist Yuko Shimizu. It also includes an exclusive afterword by cult favourite author Chuck Palahniuk (‘Fight Club', ‘Choke'), whose trademark blend of insight and irreverence offers a fresh look into the novel’s dark themes of ambition, obsession, and illusion.

“Yuko Shimizu’s breathtaking illustrations perfectly reveal how crime, lust, and betrayal simmer below the surface in Jay Gatsby’s pursuit of love and wealth. An incomparable love story, but also a warning on the dangers of unchecked idealism and ambition,” says James Rose, Head of Editorial at The Folio Society.

Crafted with care, the edition is finished by a leather cover blocked in gold foil, Sirio Pearl Cocktail Blue Moon endpapers, gilded edges and a satin ribbon marker. Each book is housed in a clamshell box and includes a limitation label signed by both Shimizu and Palahniuk. The first edition text is typeset in LTC Kennerley and printed on luxurious Dolce Vita paper using a combination of black and gold inks.

Palahniuk’s afterword offers a tribute to Fitzgerald’s lasting introspective genius: “We should all be able to lament as beautifully as [Fitzgerald] did. Regardless of shaping the future, we should all be able to revisit our past with such skill and humility.”

This release marks Shimizu’s return to The Folio Society, following her acclaimed work on ‘Japanese Tales' (2018). Known for her expressive, moody linework and bold use of colour, Shimizu has lent her talent to The New York Times, Penguin, and The New Yorker, among others.

With only 500 copies available, this centenary edition is poised to become the crown jewel in any literary collector’s library. See The Folio Society for details on how to order.
