Finnish series ‘Sunset Grove' is coming C4 Streaming in May as a full boxset.
The series was created by Johanna Hartikainen, Marjus Mäkelä and Helena Sorva. It stars Leena Uotila, Rea Mauranen and Eeva Litmanen.
Siiri Kettunen, 94, lives at Sunset Grove retirement home, where she suspects something sinister behind the death of her favorite chef, Tero. At his funeral, she meets Mika, a motorcycle club leader, who hints at illegal activities at the home. Siiri and her friend Irma investigate, but they’re met with resistance from the head nurse, Virpi Hiukkanen, who becomes furious. Irma files a complaint.
Mika shares a shocking theory: Sunset Grove is involved in organized crime, with Nurse Hiukkanen orchestrating a drug trade. Siiri’s investigation hits a setback when Irma is sent to the infamous dementia ward. With new ally Anna-Liisa, Siiri attempts to meet Reino, one of the few to escape the dementia ward, but he dies before they can speak to him. At Reino’s funeral, Siiri learns he was “cured” of dementia after leaving the ward, leading her to question if Irma had been drugged.
Mika helps Siiri obtain Irma’s patient records, revealing that Irma had filed multiple complaints about Sunset Grove’s activities. Siiri and Anna-Liisa plan a rescue with the help of the Ambassador, their card game companion and Anna-Lissa’s newfound beau.
But just as the rescue plan is being set in motion, fire breaks out in the dementia ward. Irma is evacuated, but her condition worsens. Nurse Hiukkanen tries to blame Siiri for the fire, but as Irma regains her memory, Siiri and Mika expose the drug trade. Charges against Siiri are dropped, Irma returns to Sunset Grove, and Anna-Liisa marries the Ambassador, giving the residents a wedding instead of a funeral.
