Kalama, Washington-born Tucker Wetmore is an artist that has been rapidly on the rise the past 12 months. Initially setting his sights on a career in football, Wetmore’s dreams were cut short when he sustained an injury. Turning his attention to music, he moved to Nashville in 2020 and he hasn’t looked back. With debut album ‘What Not To’ expected to be released in April, Wetmore has picked up plenty of attention thanks to his 2024 EP ‘Waves on a Sunset’ and his singles ‘Wine into Whiskey’ and “Wind Up Missin’ You”. He was also featured on the soundtrack to last year’s summer blockbuster ‘Twisters’ with Conner Smith on the raucous ‘Steal My Thunder’.
Now Wetmore is adding to his fast-increasing list of milestones with his debut show on UK soil as part of C2C. Fresh from C2C Berlin, Wetmore was the second artist on the Main Stage at London’s O2 Arena, on the first day of the festival. Following the rapturous reception that Wyatt Flores received, it was a tall order for Wetmore to keep the crowd entertained but just seconds after launching into ‘What Would You Do?’, he had a good portion of the audience on its feet and dancing. Striding across the stage with a confident swagger, Wetmore is a singer in the same vein as Morgan Wallen, albeit with a stronger voice.
The radio-friendly ‘Silverado Blue’ followed, allowing Wetmore to showcase a more vulnerable side. The song is a sonic shift from opener ‘What Would You Do?’, fitting much more in step with the current trend at Country radio. Keeping the energy high, Wetmore launched into the beat-driven ‘Break First’ before turning his attention to new single ‘3,2,1’, the latest taster from his upcoming album ‘What Not To’. One of the highlights of the set was ‘Bad Luck Looks Good On Me’, which suggests that Wetmore’s upcoming debut album is going to be more than worth the wait.
‘Wine Into Whiskey’ stepped back to the Wallen-like sound that Wetmore showcased at the beginning of the set. Again though, his voice sounded stronger with more a range and a deeper passion. Another track from his upcoming album followed before Wetmore ended his set with his number one smash ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’. Predictably that song got the biggest reaction of the set, and the audience sung along at the top of their lungs. Looking visibly moved, Wetmore was emotional on stage before bidding the audience goodnight.
Across his 30-minute set, Wetmore showcased plenty of confidence and impressed with his spot-on vocals. His music fits neatly into what’s being played on Country radio right now, and there were hints that there’s something deeper to come when his album arrives in April. On stage he has plenty of charisma, wiggling his hips as a smile beams from his face and he commands the audience. Could we be seeing a future headliner in the making? Quite possibly. The anticipation for Wetmore was high and I’m glad to say that he didn’t disappoint.
