Just in time for Halloween, The Folio Society has unveiled a highly-anticipated limited edition of Edgar Allan Poe's ‘Tales of Mystery and Imagination'. This collection of the American author’s most iconic and haunting stories delves into the darker aspects of human psychology, showcasing the writer's flair for creating believable and troubled characters. Released to coincide with the 175th anniversary of Poe’s mysterious and premature death on October 7th, 1849, when he was only forty years old, this eye-catching edition pays homage to the undisputed master of Gothic horror. Check out the photos to see the deluxe design and special features that evoke the supernatural and macabre themes of his work.

This collection includes some of Poe's most celebrated tales, like ‘The Tell-Tale Heart', ‘The Fall of the House of Usher', ‘The Pit and the Pendulum', and ‘The Murder in the Rue Morgue' — which is widely considered the first detective story (Poe is credited with inventing the genre). Through these timeless narratives, Poe’s genius for creating real psychological depth and evoking responses in his readers to our most deep-rooted fears is evident on every page. The stories are a testament to why he remains a stalwart and pioneer of horror literature.
The limited edition also brings new perspectives to Poe’s legacy. Award-winning horror writer Joe Hill provides an exclusive introduction, exploring Poe's enduring influence and his role as the greatest Gothic short-story writer of his time. Enhancing the experience, eerie illustrations by Evangeline Gallagher, the recent winner of the Folio Book Illustration Award, bring Poe’s sinister worlds to life. Gallagher’s illustrations join a storied legacy of visual interpretations of Poe’s work, from Arthur Rackham to Harry Clarke.

This exclusive edition is a work of art in itself. Quarter-bound in leather, the volume features a striking bloody heart emblem on the cover, encased within a box designed to resemble a human ribcage. As a special addition, the collection includes a booklet featuring ‘The Raven', Poe’s famous poem, produced with hot-metal setting and hand-sewn with red thread, giving a chilling touch to the design.
Signed by both Hill and Gallagher, this edition is a must-have for horror enthusiasts and collectors alike. ‘Tales of Mystery and Imagination' will be available starting October 31st 2024, exclusively at foliosociety.com. Sign up to the newsletter.
